Here at Wild Alaskan, we don’t just sell fish – we also sell shellfish (say that 5 times fast)! Currently, our crab offerings depend on availability, so make sure to reach out to our Member Experience team to check our selection of these limited time specials. πŸ¦€

There are three varieties of crab that we offer: Dungeness, Snow, and Red King crab. While these are all wild caught crab, they are also very unique from each other. This article is your guide to the differences between the three, and how to best enjoy them! πŸ˜‹

Preparation

All our crab comes pre-cooked, which means the crab sections are submerged in water and cooked until they reach a minimum End-Point-Internal-Product-Temperature (EPIPT) of 165Β°F. After freezing, a fresh/potable water/ice glaze is then applied (this is to protect the product during transport and storage)! πŸ“¦

Since our crab offerings are pre-cooked, we recommend boiling them straight from frozen for ~4 minutes to bring them up to temp. If you decide to steam, grill or broil them, be sure to remove any portions you wish to enjoy, then thaw under refrigeration on a tray/plate (similar to our other fish). Once thawed, proceed to heat them for ~4-6 minutes. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

All of our crab offerings are gluten free, and an excellent source of protein. With no compromised packaging, all three of these varieties should have a shelf life of up to 6 months in your home freezer. ❄️

Dungeness Crab

Dungeness Crab Snap & Eat

First up: Dungeness crab! Our Dungies come in a 32 ounce pack. The crab is pre-scored, and pre-cooked, which means it’s ready to heat & eat! The pack will include a mix of claws & legs, equating to about 15-18 pieces per bag (32 oz. total). The meat of Dungeness is both sweet and tender, with a sprinkle of saltiness from the ocean water.

Red King Crab

Last, but certainly not least: Red King Crab! Our Red King crab comes in a 32 ounce pack. The pack will include three select portions: top part of arm & shoulder + one claw (either killer or feeder). Standard packing specification is based on the declared count of shoulder portions (ratio of claws to shoulder/arm portions at a natural 1:3 ratio). This species is known for being the most sought-after crab variation in Alaska, along with its incredibly rich, sweet, and tender meat.
